Moved to Vancouver: 1971
Media career: First woman in Vancouver to host her own radio talk show, on CJOR. Spent 10 years hosting at CKNW, and also had her own shows on CBC TV and CBC Radio One.
Morning kickstart: A cup of strong organic coffee, green juice with wheatgrass and an apple.
Where her questions come from: "I do a lot of research. I was born curious. I am also a yakker and love great conversation. I also try to stay present, and I listen, which of course is the key. And then, one has to go where angels fear to tread and ask the question you want to ask, you HAVE to ask – and that gives a question the edge it needs."
Most exciting interview: "Oh, I don't think there is just one. The most exciting interview is someone who has great ideas, is spontaneous, down-to-earth, and provocative. It doesn't matter what they are talking about; it's about the passion they have for their subject."
Martini: "A proper one, very dry; with olives or a twist, I can go either way."
On her recent recovery from a brain aneurysm (and eight hours of surgery): "My friends, family, and the public were incredible during my recovery –it was an extravagant demonstration of love, for which I'm deeply grateful. And what have I learned from it all? Live it to the hilt, sister! This isn't a dress rehearsal."
